Monsters at Junior Nationals
From March 14 - 19, three of the top swimmers were traveling to and competing in the NCSA Junior National Swim Meet in Orlando, FL. This meet is a prestigious meet that draws high level swimmers from all over the country. The times standards are fast and the competition is fierce. Mia Motekaitis, Kyla Leacox and Cody Hargadon represented the Monsters at the meet.
Motekaitis had an up and down meet, swimming strong in some of her events and achieving lifetime bests in others. A highlight for her was breaking the 5:00 barrier in the 500 freestyle for the first time. That is a first for a female Monster swimmer. She also posted a lifetime best in the 200 backstroke by a large margin.
Leacox had a similar meet, swimming well in her best events and a achieving a handful of best times. Her top performance was in the 200 breaststroke knocking roughly a second off of her entry time. Leacox also represented well in the 50 yard stroke events, with some of her higher finishes coming in the shorter distances.
Hargadon performed close to her entry times and said she learned a lot on the trip. Traveling cross-country and having to perform in a different time zone is challenging and all of the girls were able to grow a lot as a result of the trip.
