Volunteer Descriptions

Here are the descriptions of Championship volunteer tasks.

A. Official jobs: Pre-trained required

1. Deck referee

2. Stroke and turn Judges

3. Early take off judges

4. Heat Starters

 

B. Timing System (Colorado System):

Operating timing system. Pre-computer knowledge required.

 

C. Ready Bench Area:

Once each team brings kids to the ready bench area (by age group parents), ready area people will put them in the order of heats.

 

D. Hospitality:

Serve water, fruits snack etc to volunteers who are stuck at their station (ie timers, officials etc).

 

E. Ribbons:

Ribbon volunteers will place a sticker (w/ swimmers info) onto the ribbons. At the championship only those who places 1st at each heat will get ribbons. Also, only those who placed in the finals will receive metals.

 

F. Deck Patrol:

Deck patrol needs to keep unauthorized people off the blocked off competition area.

 

G. T-shirt & program sales:

Normally located at the entrance of the pool. Sales T-shirts and programs. This position is assigned by the time and not by events ( ie 9-11am and not from event 1-20).

 

H. Announcer:

Announce events, swimmers etc at the competition.

 

I. Runner:

Runner will take DQ slips etc to the computer people.

 

J. Registration table:

Check in volunteers, answer questions from volunteers.

 

K. Timers and Writers:

Timers and record during the event. There are 8-10 lanes and each lane has 3 timers at any given time. Plus head timers and back up timers.

L. Computer:

Pre-trained position. Computer person will print out events/program based on any scratches. Also print out stickers that goes on the ribbons. Enter DQ as well.

 

M. Age group parents:

Checks in swimmers before the meet starts. And gather swimmers prior to the events and take them to ready bench area. Possibly assists R/B especially during relays.
